It’s done under sedation typically but can even be done awake. (Not sure if that’s connected to all this) The main thing I need right now is to unlock and then I can focus on preventing locking in the future. I always feel the need to pop my ears, especially when eating. I know I grind and clench my teeth when I sleep. I do have ringing in my ears and my neck/shoulders are always tense. It feels more like a suuuper right rubber band that will cause extreme pain if pushed to open too far. The different thing with my lock is that it doesn’t feel like my jaw hits a wall when I try to open. ![]() (I say basically because it unlocked for 2 seconds on Thursday night and promptly closed again). Last Thursday my jaw was locked in the morning as usual but has basically stayed locked since then. He made me a mouth guard for night time which made me lock even more severely so I stopped using that. I figured out a way to loosen my jaw to let it unlock so the TMJ specialist that I saw at the time told me since I have no pain, that this will just be something I need to adjust to in my life. It began with the regular popping and clicking and progressed to locking every morning after waking up. I began having TMJ disorder related problems when I was around 18 or 19 (25 now).
